Today, there are many rivers identified as dead in the Philippines. This imposes a huge impact to individuals, families and communities at present but mores so depict massive threat in the near future. Limited amount of water are already felt in the region especially every summer since El Nino phenomena and global warming exist. Hover during rainy season, due to dead rivers and reduce number of trees and vegetation, deadly floods are experienced by many both in urban and rural areas.
This occurrence calls every single person to be proactively responsible in dealing and preserving what Mother Earth has provided for life sustenance which includes water conservation.
The children of today are believed to be the future leaders. With that, as early as today, children must be aware of the sources of life and sustainability and become responsible stewards on Earth’s natural resources. Awareness is the key for action and responsiveness, making the children an effective and efficient Earth’s stewards and future leaders.
Every drop of water counts. Here are some methods on how to conserve water which can be practice at home, in school and in the community. Parents and teachers must reiterate re-educate and guide the children on ways to conserve the earth’s natural resources including water.
- Check faucets and pipes or any leaks.
- Do not use any type of bod y of water as trash bins. Wastes should be placed on waste bin or basket.
- Assess your water meter and also check your toilet and sink for any water leakage.
- Use water-saving shower heads or low-flow faucet aerators that restrict water flow.
- Use a glass when brushing ones teeth or shaving, turn off water in the faucet when not needed
- Make your bath time shorter.
- Place a one gallon of plastic filled with water or float booster inside you toilet tank to displace water.in this way, two to ten gallons per day.
- Never use the toilet to flush any type of trash and flush the toilet only when necessary.
- Wash full loads of clothing instead of using washing machines with few clothing.
- In washing fruits, vegetables and meat do not let them wash under running water, use small pans instead.
- Hand wash dishes and use mild detergent to save water.
- Clean garage or driveway with a broom bot with a water hose.
- When washing your car, park it on the grass or near the plants thereby watering the plants and lawns as well.
