Handwashing

     Educating children about hygiene is one of the fundamental aspects that should be learned.  It is not only merely cleaning up to make oneself attractive or to portray physical cleanliness. Hygiene education is important because it is also a key for wellness and in the prevention of unwanted infectious diseases.

Hygiene Education

Frequent handwashing is important since children are physically active and they usually are in contact with everything that surrounds them. Improper handwashing  may lead to detrimental health conditions. Proper handwashing technique is clearly illustrated on the provided link.

Routine clipping of nails is necessary as minute microorganisms live and hide under the fingernails. This can be done after proper handwashing to eliminate presence of unwanted microorganism and to prevent spread of infection.

Regular bathing is important in removing pathogens that come into contact with the child's body during certain activities. Bathing also improves ones well being and most importantly ones self esteem. During bath time, parents can also assess their child's body in cases of open wounds, scratches, any type of inflammation or abnormalities, in this way proper management can be done immediately. Children should wear clean set of clothing which are comfortable and weather appropriate. 



Brushing the teeth three times a day is imperative to gain good oral hygiene.Brush ones teeth with toothpaste and fluoridated water to keep ones breath odor and bacteria free. Good set of teeth and fresh mouth portray good oral hygiene. 

 

Washing of hair can be done during bathing period. A mild shampoo is used to reduce any chance of scalp irritation. Regular washing of hair prevents the infestation of parasites and also a way to detect presence of such. Prevention of infestation is best and early detection of presence of parasites may lead to early intervention thereby reducing any chances of spreading it with other children.
